Audun Sandvik is the principal cellist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.  His exceptional versatility is evidence of an intense interest in communication through music at all levels, proof of this is mirrored in his popularity on the Norwegian freelance scene.

His career as soloist and chamber music performer includes among others soloist-appearances with The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgarter Chamber Orchestra and the  professional Naval Orchestra, Sweden. With his duopartner, pianist Sveinung Bjelland he has toured all over Norway with perfomances at the major Norwegian Music Festivals.  They are also regular guest artist at the Maputo International Music Festival, Mosambique.  For Concerts of Norway (Rikskonsertene) he has been touring in India and China. Then for many years being a member of Risør Festival strings , he has collaborated with global stars like Janine Jansen, Julian Rachlin, Leif Ove Andsnes, Torleif Thedeen og Heinrich Schiff.  Sandvik is  the motive force, orchestra leader and artistic advisor for the Gloppen Music Festival that takes place each year in Sandane, Norway.  He is a wellknown face in classical music programs on Norwegian TV both as solist and chamber-musician.  Sandvik is in close contact with the new generation of Norwegian composers, and he is currently in the process of commissioning, performing and recording  the new exciting cello repertoire.

Sandvik is a devoted pedagogue, and teaches at the Norwegian State Academy of music, where besides teaching one of his most important duties is to be Study Contact for the string students, and member of juries.

He has a Performer Diploma from the Indiana University, USA, where he studied with the legendary cellist and teacher Professor Janos Starker. In spring 2000 Sandvik won the prestigious soloist competition at the same university. He was also chosen to perform the Z. Kodály Sonata op. 8 on the1999 video “Master Class with Janos Starker”. He represented the Norwegian Academy of Music at the Kyoto International Music festival, Japan. In  2007 he completed his Artist Diploma at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied with Professor Truls Mørk, Professor Aage Kvalbein and Professor Lars Anders Tomter. 

Sandvik has participated in numerous seminars with among others Frans Helmerson, Arto Noras, Steven Isserlis, David Geringas, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Erling Bløndal-Bengtson, Jeroen Reuling, Ralph Kirshbaum, Leonard Stehn and Eleonora Testeleca.

He has received many awards and lately was given the prestigious price “De Unges Lindemans Legat”

Future projects includes the recording of Sergei Rachmaninoff : Sonate for cello og klaver,  g-moll op. 19  and Dmitri Sjostakovitsj :  Sonate for cello og klaver, d-moll op 40  (LAWO)

He plays on a cello made in Rome 1695 by Giorgio Taninger.



Audun Sandvik ga sin første solokonsert på  Edvard Griegs Museum Troldhaugen i 1998 og har siden konsertert særdeles aktivt  som solist og kammermusiker i inn- og utland. Han harPerformer Diploma fra Indiana University, USA, der han studerte med den legendariske cellisten og pedagogen Janos Starker. Våren 2000 vant Audun Sandvik den prestisjetunge solistkonkurransen ved det samme universitetet.  Han representerte Norges Musikkhøgskole ved Kyoto International Music festival, Japan. 

Våren 2007 avsluttet han Diplomstudiet ved Norges Musikkhøgskole der han har studertemed professor Truls Mørk, professor Aage Kvalbein og professor Lars Anders Tomter. Våren 2003 var han solist med Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester, og i april 2005 gjestet han det samme orkesteret igjen som solist med Saint-Saens cellokonsert. 

Siden  høsten 2006 er han engasjert som solocellist i Kringkastingsorkesteret og er også medlem av Det Norske Kammerorkester. Som solist har han bl.a. opptrått med verdensberømte Stuttgarter Kammerorchester

Som kammermusiker har han samarbeidet med Leif Ove Andsnes, Arve Tellefsen, Kim Kaskashian, Arvid Engegård, Terje Tønnesen, Lars Anders Tomter, Janine Jansen og Julian Rachlin.

Audun Sandvik har siden 2003 årlig medvirket ved Risør Kammemusikkfest, og har også vært engasjert og re-engasjert ved festivaler som blant annet Oslo Kammermusikkfestival,Festspillene i Bergen og Maputo International Music Festival. 

Han er drivkraft og kunstnerisk rådgiver for Gloppen Musikkfest som årlig finner sted i Sandane. Han spiller på en cello bygget i 1695 av Giorgio Taninger.
